Artek writing desk designed by Alvar Aalto. Designed in the 1950s and manufactured in Finland. This writing desk is one of Alvar Aalto's famous designs. It's simple and timeless. Made from birch wood with a blue laminated top. It has two drawers attached to the table and a backboard which are both optional. These can also be taken of so it can be used as a table instead. The desk is in great condition with minor signs of usage. It's marked on the bottom. Please see all pictures as these are part of the product description.
Alvar Aalto, together with carpenter Otto Korhonen, began experimenting with bending solid wood in the late 1920s. The collaboration resulted in an L-leg, which was an invention that took a step towards the mass production of Aalto’s furniture. Alvar Aalto patented the L-leg bending technique in 1933. L-leg became to be the standard component for Aalto’s furniture design and based on the invention also Y-leg and X-leg were later developed.
