Artek Model E60 Stool by Alvar Aalto (Red)
Artek Model E60 stool designed by Alvar Aalto. One of Alvar's most famous designs. The E60 model is slightly different from the model 60. The 60 has only three legs where the E60 has four. It's approximately from the 1960s and made in Finland from solid birch wood L-legs with a red laminated top. This stool is in good vintage condition. As shown in the pictures the stool shows signs of usage and the red top has some stains on it. This gives the stool a great patina.
Alvar Aalto, together with carpenter Otto Korhonen, began experimenting with bending solid wood in the late 1920s. The collaboration resulted in an L-leg, which was an invention that took a step towards the mass production of Aalto’s furniture. Alvar Aalto patented the L-leg bending technique in 1933. L-leg became to be the standard component for Aalto’s furniture design and based on the invention also Y-leg and X-leg were later developed.
